For the last couple of weeks, I have been scouring Craigslist to find a play table with chairs for the library/play room. The kids (my nephew included) play on the floor and sometimes we use a coffee table that I reserve for client meetings.
We went to a couple of toy stores and thrift stores in hopes of finding a decent deal. Ideally I wanted a wood table with four chairs (minimum two). I did not want anything crazy painted, or any princesses, logos, or cartoon characters.
We found a wood table with two chairs at an antique store, but unfortunately the $80 price tag was more than what I wanted to spend when we would have to refinish and coat the surface.
The other night I hit the jackpot with this posting:
The price tag had me. I quickly sent off an email and yesterday morning I came home with it. While Bunny took her nap, I brought it into the playroom/library.It is at least 20 years old, and looks sort of like this table and chair set that I had when I was a little girl! Brian needs to add a few screws here and there on some of the chairs, and the seat cover top is hiding a crack or two on a couple of the chairs. I would like to eventually change out the fabric one of these days. But for $20, it was a bargain. This will be especially true when my nephew comes over, and when we have my other nephew here later this summer. I am so excited to see the three kids sitting here.
Even though I bought it yesterday morning, we had a playdate with Bunny’s BFF (and her mom, my sewing BFF) in the afternoon. Bunny didn’t get to take a good look and try it out until late in the day. I love how she patted the fabric cover to make sure it was okay first.
She loved it. She got busy doing her work. Her feet don’t touch the floor, so she needs help getting into the seat, but I know that won’t be a problem as she grows. The room is very slowly coming together, and I think the table and chairs make everything seem much more proper. Hopefully this will teach the children to keep their toys on the table and not everywhere else!
Right now the playroom/library looks like this with it in the room:
It’s coming along though, and we have already had some fun times in my former office. I would like to add adult seating, and hang up more artwork. I still have to clear the very top shelf and rearrange things a bit more.
I like to remind myself these are good problems to have. Well, Brian reminded me as I sighed over and over yesterday morning about having to drive with our toddler to go pick up the furniture alone. 🙂
