It’s been a little while since my last post as we have been helping my mom, dealing with my sprained ankle, entertaining the in-laws for the weekend, and now just playing catch-up on life and everything else.
I thought it high time that I get a quilt started and finished for Nagini. After all, Bunny has three quilts already. Nagini needs at least one so that I can take her monthly photos for her baby book!
Enter the Mod Sampler quilt. Confession: when I bought the fabrics, these were never intended to be a baby quilt. It was supposed to be a quilt “for fun.” But since I already had the fabric, and I am 7 months pregnant, well, let’s just say that I am perfectly happy that this will be her first quilt. I love the colors and I think it will pop nicely in photos. Even if it doesn’t match her room!
Brian helped me lay out the blocks since I was too round to lay them all around the floor, so I appreciate that. It all came together quickly once I settled down and actually worked on it! I had this in my basket for months and then only partially cut fabric for months.
This was also my first time machine-binding and I am impressed at how quickly I did it. I think it took me about an hour and a half to do it all! I followed this tutorial.
I still have to put a label on the quilt, maybe tonight.
I quilted it in a diamond block pattern because I thought it was a fun contrast to the squares. Plus, it satisfied the part of me that likes things in a neat and orderly fashion.
Whew! I am super thrilled to have finished this quilt. It’s just one less thing on the to-do list.
Since finishing up, I have already packed away the sewing machine so the next few quilts I have in queue will have to wait a while. I have lots of embroidery projects in the works and a quilt that needs to be hand-quilted so I am not completely craft-less. 🙂
