Since I decided to jump in and join Project Simplify again this year, this week was all about Drawers and Shelves. Since pretty much any open surface on our house is filled with stuff right now, I thought the easiest thing to tackle would be shelves/counters that involved children’s toys. Toys seem to mysteriously accumulate on every surface.
For example, in our butler’s pantry, we have had these two Lego sets sitting there since November. Yes, November. I wish I was joking:
The playroom was out of control too. The horrifying BEFORE photos:
I decided to think about how Bunny and my nephew spend their time. My nephew primarily plays with the mini-figures, so I decided to package up all his Lego pieces that were taking up shelf space in the playroom.
Then I tackled Bunny’s toys. I asked her if she wanted to keep things and she would say yes or no.
We are going to give the extra toys to our next door neighbors who run a daycare from their house.
Whew, much better. The lovely AFTER photos:
I decided to limit the amount of toys that she has because stuff was ending up everywhere. She has more but I put them in our coat closet that we will rotate in and out so that it’s not too much all at once. My nephew has one shelf where he can keep his Lego minifigures (and out of Bunny’s reach).
Whew. Next up the kitchen, BEFORE:
This was taken last month, and it more or less stayed looking that way. But I am crazy nesting again, and today it looks like this, AFTER:
I then went even more crazy nesting and started organizing the cabinets. I forgot to get a BEFORE photo of this, but here is the AFTER:

My cooking spices, BEFORE:
Since Bunny is notorious for messing around with containers, I decided to make our lives easier and give her a cabinet for her stuff. I can tell her to go get her own bowl and she will know where to go. She loves it:

Then I got really crazy and started working in our bedroom. This is the BEFORE:
The luggage is my hospital bag and the stuff on the left is our donate/Goodwill pile waiting to be taken downstairs, AFTER:
I still have to work on our bedroom more, but I can happily say that the entire first floor of our house looks awesome. It hasn’t looked this good since before Bunny!
The kids rooms are done, so that leaves our bedroom, the guest bedroom, and our office area. Let’s see how I do with the next challenge!
