This week’s Project Simplify challenge is dealing with that pesky closet. At the start of the year, I would have said all our closets are pesky closets right now!
I actually worked on most of our closets in January, starting with the pantry. Here it is, BEFORE:
Since the photo was taken in January, it is still very organized. Here is the AFTER:
One of my favorite closets right now is the hallway linen closet. This was taken in January and it still looks magical today. I wish I had a BEFORE photo, but here is the AFTER (Yes, I hoard toilet paper to the extreme. That, and dental floss.):But my biggest pesky closet problem was actually our storage nook, which once upon a time was super organized. Somehow it fell under the just throw everything that doesn’t belong in there syndrome.
Here is the awful BEFORE photos:
We spent the weekend cleaning out and doing a bit more purging, including moving some of the items into Nagini’s room and around the house in anticipation of her arrival.
Today, it looks like this, the much better AFTER:
Okay, so the worst, worst closet was actually our master bedroom closet. I was too embarrassed to take BEFORE photos because, well, it was really bad. We have a really enviable closet as it can be the size of most people’s bedrooms! If we ever move out of our house I will grieve for the size of our closet.
Anyway, we decided to turn my sewing nook into our newest office space (more on that in a future post), which meant my crafting stuff needed a new home. Brian put one of our old office bookshelves into the closet so I could store my things. It is pretty awesome because there are some built-ins from the previous homeowners and I can fit everything in there.
I know, we are really blessed to have a closet this size. Since I am pregnant and will be in between sizes it was hard to purge, though we did manage to collect a nice pile of clothes anyway. Once Nagini arrives, there will definitely be more closet clean-up in here.
Next week is all about piles. Since working on Project Simplify I have been tackling piles along with the other challenges. My goal is to get the piles off my new office desk, and finish clearing out our old office. There are piles up there that need my attention!
