My two year old daughter seems to have inherited a terrible habit from me: she bites her nails. (I bit my nails all the way until my third year of college when I finally quit. I have been “sober” for almost 12 years now.)
Unfortunately I can’t remember the last time I clipped her fingernails. I thought I would try to appeal to her vanity and fashion sense by tempting her with nail polish. She saw my recently pedicured toes, and was in love with the idea of having color on her nails. Since I was trying to combat her nail-biting, I decided to do a little research to see if there were more eco-friendly options if she did ingest the polish.
I ended up ordering four bottles of the non-toxic Piggy Paint.
Oh the enthusiasm from my sweet Bunny when she realized the nails polish was for her. As soon as I finished painting one fingernail, she was telling me to quickly apply it to the next.
Of course she couldn’t decide on one color, so we used all four:
I wish I can say that the nail polish has been successful in getting her to quit biting her nails though, but so far no such luck. The plus side is that I am able to clip her toenails without her screaming at me in agony. So, at least one problem is solved for now.
The Piggy Paint does not last on her fingernails at all. We re-apply every day. It does last longer on her toes. When I apply the polish, I don’t go the extra step with using a hair dryer (as instructed), so that is most likely another factor.
Right now blue is her favorite color so we are using lots of blue polish.
Anyone have any other ideas? My next thought was to get the kind of polish that tastes awful, but I haven’t made the time to look into it too deeply other than to see if it is available at our local drugstore. It isn’t.
