I bought Bunny a plastic balance bike when we were on our mini-vacation last month in Blacksburg at a secondhand children’s store. I was inspired after seeing a little boy downtown using a real balance bike like a pro.
They say that a balance bike is actually better than training wheels because the child learns to hold their own balance first and then pedal later.
It makes sense to us!
She really enjoyed taking it out for a spin. Since we brought it home, for the last two months she has been really enthralled with it. But the week before last, she decided to take a break from it during on evening walks. She is more interested in stepping on “wormies” (dried worms that have become glued to the sidewalk) than bike riding right now.
I think either we will get her a real balance bike for her birthday or take the pedals off the bike she inherited from her cousin. Bunny is petite, so height is definitely something we will consider. We’ll then pass this one to Nagini (who I think will be tall enough for this one then!).
