When we went to our alma mater early last month, I managed to squeeze in a teeny, tiny amount of vintage/thrifting shopping. I was a bit bummed I couldn’t do a bit more, but alas, with two little ones, things I want to do can sometimes be put on the back-burner!
At the local Goodwill, I bought some children’s records since we have been enjoying our record player.
These were 50 cents each, so it was cool to find the Bambi one. When you open it, it turns into a read-a-long book with the songs:
I really wish this Musical Mother Goose worked out for us, but the size of the record was a bust. Our player didn’t recognize it (and I really need to do more research about this stuff and sizes, etc.) so it was a loss.
This $2 cup found its way into our home. I was at a vintage thrift store and moving my purchases to the car when Bunny went in with my mom. By the time I came back she was clutching the cup. When we told her it was time to go, we could NOT pry it off her fingers. Usually when we are out shopping if Bunny asks for something and we say no, she will put back whatever she wanted on the shelf or when it is time to leave the store, she has no problem relinquishing whatever caught her attention.
This time was different. She just held onto it and would not let it go. Brian was waiting impatiently outside for us to go to dinner, so before I could have an extended battle of wills with my daughter, my mother decided to buy the cup for her.
I’m still not sure what to think of the situation. Because since then, she has never protested or taken such an interest in anything else in a store. I admit that evening’s dinner out was the most well-behaved she had been as she happily drank from the cup (I washed it with her supervision first.).
This was a fun find at an antique store:
Yep, a coloring book on our presidents! It goes up to President Carter I think. There are fun facts about the Presidents within the pages too:
I am planning on copying the pages and sending a version to one of our dear friends. They are history geeks and named their son who is a week younger than Nagini after two Presidents! So, they can expect this in the mail for his birthday next year!
As for me, I scored this magazine/paper holder:
And this metal file box:
Both items totaled $15. I consider it a steal! It will match my desk and I can see myself using the file box to store 4×6 photos and cards for Project Life.
I’m very excited to find new thrifting/vintage haunts in Texas. There is supposed to be some great antiquing there!
