We still have a broken oven. It’s the darn circuit board. We sent it to Brian’s dad to see if he could do some solder and magic on it. Unfortunately it didn’t work. It looked like it might still be one tiny connection, so we’ll send it off to one more place to give it a whirl. We really do not want to spend $1500 on a new double wall oven just yet!
In the meantime we have been pretty busy working on little projects around the house. We’re trying to make this place a home for however long we end up staying. First up was putting up some family pictures:
We’ve also been working on getting into the holiday season with Christmas coming. We have a new tradition that we started last year with reading a Christmas/holiday themed book each night. That’s been fun.
A new thing that we did:
This was both my and Bunny’s first time decorating gingerbread stuff. I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Once we finished, I was like, “That’s it?” As a child of immigrant parents, this also made me feel like I was wasting food and I could not stop thinking about all the kids in third world countries. I don’t know if we’ll keep doing this. Bunny ended up bossing me and telling me where to put the decorations because she didn’t want to get her hands dirty and then she wanted to eat the candy anyway. So, TBD for next year.
It was also really warm at the beginning of the month, (Think air conditioning running in the house. In December. Yeah, I don’t know either.) so now that it is a bit colder we have been able to turn on the lights to our trees! The one above is the children’s tree. We had fun decorating it together as a family. Most of the ornaments ended up on one branch, but I fixed it after Bunny went to bed. Of course, both girls have grabbed at the ornaments and a couple have already needed repairs. They’re mostly non-breakable, cute ornaments. Bunny loves taking them off the tree, so I find them in random places like a kitchen drawer.
It’s all good, because the masterpiece is this one (ignore the silly mantle light I put up, Brian ended up fixing it after this photo was taken):
The girls have been good about leaving this tree alone and just admiring it. The bonus is that it’s so bright and beautiful it helps to heat the house….well, at least until the next warm spell comes around here!
