It’s been a little busy around here:
As soon as Christmas is over, I am ready to put away all the holiday decorations. I’m talking about pretty much as soon as the presents are unwrapped. (Brian has to convince me to wait at least until a weekend, though there have been a couple of times when I got him to do it on the 26th!)
I guess it’s because I am ready for a fresh start with the beginnings of a new year. I’m cleaning, decluttering, looking for ways to simplify. As soon as we the Christmas stuff disappeared, we tackled the playroom together with putting some toys in boxes (one box for each child to “grow into”), a travel box (for road trips). The third row of shelves and higher means that Mommy or Daddy need to help or supervise, the second to bottom row of shelves is for Bunny, and the very bottom of shelves is for Nagini.
It’s working out pretty well so far. We have purged some toys, and seriously I don’t understand how many stuffed animals get accumulated! I am very anti-stuffed animals right now. We’ve narrowed it down to fit into a basket, so we will edit as needed.Since moving to TX, when we have conversations with each other and say “home” we mean Virginia. Well it’s time to stop being in limbo and leaving things in piles in closets and boxes because we need to make right now, this place, our home. That’s what we have been working on these last couple of weeks. There’s been lots of decluttering, putting photos and stuff on the walls, and changing our mindset. Yeah sure, we have no idea how long we will be in this place, this house. But we can’t emotionally not live in this place either.
I haven’t figured out all my goals for the new year, but I do have one thing in mind for 2014. The word CONTENT is bouncing around in my mind. Content as in contentment and finding peace and happiness at this stage of our life. Also content as in what stuff am I letting into my/our live? What contents am I putting out there? Hmm, it’s definitely something I will be working on figuring out this year.
Happy New Year.
