I embrace the Done is Better than Perfect philosophy. But, I was a bit overzealous in finishing both children’s albums on what I defined as “on time” for me. (Their albums were finished before they were 1.5 years old.)
I think I would give myself a longer stretch of deadline, like before my child is 2 years old (Ha! Risk taker!), and do a little bit at a time instead of devoting larger chunks of time when I felt like I was scrambling at the end.
I get stressed out and grumpy if I approach the deadlines I set. You think I would have learned my lesson by now, but no, not really. I accept that I get a little crazy, and I try to have a sense of humor about it. Giving myself longer deadlines has helped, as has scaling back on taking on too many projects at one time.
Figure out where you are, and what you can accomplish. Just because I set a deadline to be done in 2 years doesn’t mean that you can’t set yours for 3, or longer.
