Do you want your house to be at least 99.9%* cleaner? Don’t wear outside shoes inside. This has always been a cultural thing growing up but it makes keeping house so much easier. If you need to wear shoes, get a pair that is only indoors.
Don’t fight me on this and say your shoes are clean enough. Just think about it next time you walk into a public restroom and wonder what liquids and sticky things are on the floor. Because you’re bringing it into your house. (*I made up that statistic…but it’s probably true!)
Our garage has a step platform and this is where we remove and store our shoes before coming in the house (IKEA, but use any shoe rack or an old bookcase). It’s so nice to keep it all contained. Any extra pairs of shoes we have are stored on an old bookshelf in our master closet.
We lined this part of the platform with carpet remnant to feel a bit more “posh” around here!
Taking off our shoes has been pretty much a part of my upbringing, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn from a Canadian friend that they all take their shoes off too. I like to wear socks but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair of slippers.
