Happy New Year! This year is the year of the goat and I made dinner for my family. I cooked a little bit more since my in-laws just happened to be visiting and it was fun to cook a more authentic Chinese meal for them.
Usually I just stick to American dishes, but since moving across the country, I’ve made more of an effort to learn my comfort meals that my mom made for us. I want my kids to appreciate their Chinese heritage as well, and that’s helped me feel more motivated.
I made a few dishes starting from the top and going clockwise: sauteed spinach, pork and beef pot-stickers, steamed fish, rice, poached chicken, garlic sauce, and ginger and scallion sauce.
It was a lot easier than Thanksgiving!
Since my mom is long distance right now, I found it easier to ask the internet for tips and advice on making some dishes. These recipes were pretty close to what I did.
Our kids got their red envelopes and they were so happy from the day they didn’t get to bed until much, much later.
Happy Year of the Goat/Sheep!
