When my family came to visit last month, we went crazy and ate so much good food that I had to share some of our favorite new discoveries.
First are the Snyder’s of Hanover Honey Mustard & Onion pretzel pieces. When my nephew first arrived he asked if we could pick some up at the grocery store. I put it in the cart and said that is the grossest combination I had ever heard. Well, we ended up buying 6 more bags of it the rest of the month! I don’t like chips and pretzels but this one is so good. And, you will have stinky onion breath when you finish!
Next up is mochi. Sometimes you can find them at a frozen yogurt place, but I had looked all over the place for them to bring home. I finally found some packages at one of the local Asian grocery stores and bought all of them! Now I can have it as much as I want with my own bowl of ice cream! (Current favorite ice cream: Breyers Chocolate Truffle.)
Speaking of chocolate, we went a bit overboard on buying some while my sister and other nephew were here. They ended up bringing about half of it back with them, but I have been on a bit of a chocolate kick lately, and the darker the better.
A couple of weeks ago, we went to visit our friends in Baton Rouge and they introduced us to some good recipes. I’ve already made them both this week!
The first is red beans and rice. I ended up using pinto beans because it was what we had in our pantry, but it was still really good. I think next time I’m going to look for a crockpot version of this recipe.
The other really good one is this ravioli with mushroom recipe. I used already made ravioli. I also used bacon instead of pancetta and regular mushrooms from the grocery store. I love it, but I think next time I will try more of a variety of mushrooms on my next trip to the Asian grocery store.
Have you had any good food encounters? Let me know! I’m trying to expand my recipes!
