I picked up a new habit this year and while it’s been really challenging, I’m finding it has helped our house stay mostly under control.
I keep all the same items together in one place.
Now, it might seem pretty obvious to you, but it didn’t click into my mind until we moved into this house.
I used to keep cookbooks in the kitchen, craft books in the office, fiction and children’s books in the playroom, and the other kids books in each child’s room. I had pens in several different containers. Some board games were in our closet while the rest were in another space.
While everything was neatly put away, it was kind of crazy because I had to think about where each item was and where it needed to go back.
Now, I keep all the books together, games together, glue, batteries, and so on. All the cleaning supplies were in one location in the laundry room. There is only place for it in the house and if it’s not there then we need more. (One of the few exceptions to this rule is toilet paper. I’m a toilet paper hoarder.)
It saves me time to restock and I don’t have to think so hard about where things need to go.
Tell me, have you been doing this in your home? I’m late in the game, but I love it!
