I don’t know much about painting, but I have aspirations of eventually picking up a brush and working on canvas. However, though I haven’t yet delved into painting, I still love reading about it and learning the techniques.
I recently enjoyed reading The Elements of Landscape Oil Painting: Techniques for Rendering Sky, Terrain, Trees, and Water. This book is beautiful and inspirational for both beginner and advanced painters alike.
The book is divided into six chapters. Chapter One is Getting Started and covers art techniques and strategies. Chapter Two through Five delve into Sky, Terrain, Trees, and Water. Chapter Six covers putting the previous chapters together.
I especially enjoyed reading about the different techniques used to achieve certain results in a painting and there are step-by-step guides on how to draw trees, creating fields, and so on.
The art in the book is gorgeous and features other landscape artists. Overall, I think this an excellent book if you’re looking for guidance on landscape painting.
