Happy (Lunar) New Year! I started feeling sick towards the end of last week, and was debating if I would do any cooking/hosting/anything for the new year. But of course, in my crazy mind, I decided I needed to do something. So, on Friday, we headed out to Chinatown to stock up on food.
It was not too different than the lines at HEB or Kroger right before a holiday! Lots of lines and waiting patiently for the butcher.
Then, I tentatively decided to have dinner together on Monday…until I talked with my mom who told me that we eat food as a gathering the day before the new year! Cue a mad dash around the kitchen and last-minute invites. Thankfully, our family friends were able to attend:
I made what I could even though secretly all I wanted to do was just lay down and rest from this cold, but I’m so happy with how it turned out anyway.
When the fish came out, the first thing Nagini said was, “That’s a holy-moly fish!”
They brought dessert, so it all worked out in the end. The kids had this:

We had the Superbowl on and watched a little here and there. So, I’ll count it as a Superbowl/Chinese New Year party! 🙂
Last night I made dumplings and I am pretty much done cooking for the week at this rate!
