I’m usually a little leery of celebrity cookbooks, but I was curious to see Chrissy Teigen with Adeena Sussman’s Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat. Only very recently has she come in my celebrity knowledge existence. I think it’s fun that she’s presented as a supermodel who loves food, but initially I was skeptical.
After reading Cravings though, I think she’s the real deal. In reading her notes and passages, you could tell that food is something she really is passionate about. This book reads a lot more “light-heartedly” than the typical cookbook. Some of the photos that feature Chrissy and her husband John Legend are a little more humorous. Her intro to the recipes are fun to read even if you don’t plan to make the recipe.
Cravings is what Teigen calls her “best of the best” recipes. The book has chapters sorted by:
- Breakfast All Day
- Salads (for When You Need Them)
- Noodles and Carbs
- Thai Mom
- Party Time
- Sh*t on Toast
- Vegetable Things
- Things that Intimidate People but Shouldn’t
I found the book fun to read through. There are some really interesting ingredients or technqiues (like, orange American cheese for her mac and cheese recipe, or using Frito bags to eat chili), that I’m not sure I’ll try, but there are a few recipes in here that I’ll enjoy making.
I’m intrigued by the idea of adding cheese to guacamole, so that’ll be next on the list or maybe the Spicy Cajun Sausage, Peppers, and Cabbage.
I kind of love how unapologetic this book is. It’s food that you “want” to eat, and I think she did a great job accomplishing that.
