I’ll be the first to admit that I’m pretty terrible about doing hair. In fact, I only recently, now in my mid-30s, figured out how to actually curl my hair! With two daughters who also love to have their hair done up and braided, and with my hair the longest it has been in a while, it was time for me to expand beyond my usual ponytails and terrible braids.
In Hairstyled: 75 Ways to Braid, Pin & Accessorize Your Hair, Anne Thoumieux introduces you how to create different styles for your hair. The book has sections for:
- curly, wavy, and kinky hair
- short hair
- mid-length hair
- straight hair
- quick and easy
- for a night out
The instructions are well-written and photographs are clean and detailed to follow with the steps. I enjoyed most of the book, though there are a few hairstyles I’m not sure that I would personally go out in, like The Princess Plait which involves braiding a tiny front section of hair across your forehead. There are some neat twists (ha!) on some of the buns like the Chignon Twist which involves a wide braided bun flaked by two twirled strands.
Right now, as I type this, my hair is done up in a Bouffant Bun! I actually got a compliment wearing it earlier today, so that was fun. I am actually looking forward to doing my hair for once!
