Last month I shared the story about how I grew my eyelashes. Since I’ve taken a break from it, I wondered what to do with my leftover bottle of castor oil.
After some searching online, I remembered that it’s a popular ingredient to use as the oil cleansing method, which basically means you wash your face with oil. I figured I would give it a try.
For my normal-ish skin, I went ahead with:
- 1 part castor oil
- 2 parts extra virgin olive oil
There are some recipes that call for sunflower oil instead of evoo, but I think I’ll look into it next time at the grocery store, or when I run through this first batch. You can also do things like add essential oils.
To use: apply oil to face and massage for about 30 seconds. Let sit for another 30 seconds to 1 minute and then use a hot towel to hold to your face until it cools. Then wipe off.
I put it all in an extra empty bottle I had and left it in our shower. Since I shower at night, I just wash my face with the oil and clean with a towel while I’m in there.
The first night I did this, I noticed an immediate difference that followed through the next morning. My skin felt softer.
One of the first side effects I noticed was that I sprouted a pimple. I have no idea if it was going to happen before regardless of the oil cleansing, but nothing else has happened since then, so I’m going to assume it was already on its way!
Because of the low cost and relative ease of use, I’m going to stick with it. I noticed that I didn’t have to use as much moisturizer so that’s a plus too.
