As an avid boardgamer, I was curious to see how Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers would fare when we played with our friends. It seemed like a light enough game that we could include on our regular meetups and game nights.
In Punderdome, you need at least 3 players to play. Two of you draw two prompt cards from the box and make puns connecting them with the third player acting as judge. For example, one card says “Colors” and the other says “Minor Injuries” and you have 90 seconds to create a terrible pun. In the box example, “When I stub my toe, I yell, “ow!”
The game continues until you win 10 pairs of cards. The game comes with 200 double-sided cards, 2 mystery envelopes with fill-in prize slips, 2 page pads, and a set of rules and an example card. I don’t think the pads of paper or the envelopes are necessary. Instead, they could have probably replaced those with a timer.
This is definitely one of the games where you need to be in the right mood with the right group of people. I don’t think it will hit our table too often (it’s too light for our geeky gaming tastes) but this would be the right gift for those who enjoy word games.
