A couple of weeks ago, Target put a bunch of their summer items on clearance. We managed to take advantage of the sale and pick up an indoor/outdoor 7.5×10.5 foot rug for $60. It fit perfectly into the game/craft room because it was large enough to fill the space, but inexpensive enough in that I can craft in there without worrying about making a mess on it.
Unfortunately, with the cheap price tag, and with it being used as an indoor rug, it is seriously off-gassing. I’ve done some reading online and it’s all about the chemicals used to make the rug. Sigh.
As you can see from the photos, I have a fan running on it to help circulate, but any other tips and tricks would be appreciated!
With the fan running on it, I’ve sprayed vinegar on it. I opened the windows (which is not the best idea to do in the middle of summer, but we need the fresh air in the house!). As I did a search online, someone suggested putting a peace lily plant to help absorb some of it. I’ve done that too, but my husband warned me that if the plant absorbed too much of the gas it would not survive.
Any other ideas? I think the easiest one might be to just let it sit outside and I might resort to doing that.
