Happy New Year! I hope your 2017 is off to a great start.
Ours has already been a bit chaotic around here. My husband was supposed to take the full winter break off from work, but thanks to work and a huge project, he ended up clocking in over 80 hours of work just during the break. Not quite how we envisioned our holiday season to go, but at least we got to celebrate Christmas together as a family.
We both caught colds, and thankfully the kids haven’t picked it up.
On New Year’s Day we woke up to a broken thermostat. We bought a new thermostat, and the air conditioning stopped working the next day. We thought maybe we got a broken thermostat again, but after buying a different one it was still out. After a couple of trips around the area to fix the fuse, we finally had to call a professional to help out. $90 later, we are back and running. (The water pan was too full and shorting out the fuse. Sigh. We got a new capacitor out of it too.)
The day after that, my nephew pointed out a crack in the window pane to his room. And $420 later with a visit from the glass company, we are waiting on a replacement to arrive in the next couple of days.
Aside from those bumps, my mom and I worked on a fun project together. For a day-late Christmas present, we bought and completed the Lego Disney castle this week. It is so breathtaking in person and I have it on the entryway console table. It brings a smile to our faces whenever we see it. She wants to do another big Lego project again together, and I told her to let my wallet recover a bit first!
I’ve gotten after-Christmas shopping done. I managed to get in on the 90% off clearance at Target and got my wish of having a “scraggly” tree fulfilled.
For $9.50, even Brian couldn’t complain too much after I texted him. I’ve always liked this style of tree, but Brian has totally scoffed at them, and even more so with the price tag. So, definitely a win-win in my book!
Well mostly a win, because while I am thrilled to have my tree, that brings our Christmas tree count up to 4 in our house (family, kids, mini, and now scraggly). I’m going to have to work on some major purging elsewhere in our house to make up for it.
Another fun thing I got over the break was a NordicTrack! On one of the local mom Facebook groups, a mom posted that she was giving away her NordicTrack for free because she was too uncoordinated to use it!
I offered to take it and am so happy to get a piece of exercise equipment for free! Brian has always been against buying a treadmill or something along those lines, so the fact that it’s been pretty much risk-free (other than maybe it not working) it worked out wonderfully. I have it in our family room right now as I type, but I’m thinking of bringing it back into our bedroom. I’ll figure it out! 🙂
Next week I’ll do a runthrough of my 2017 resolutions. I might need to adjust a few of them as the need arises!
