The last couple of weeks have been crazy! I decided to get a head start on one of my 2017 resolutions and get a quote for one of the bathrooms in our house. Well, next thing I know, as I type this we are in the middle of a remodel!
The bathroom we are remodeling right now is the bathroom we use for 2 of the bedrooms, and for guests when they come to our house. It’s very awkwardly done, and I’ll try to explain it with photos.
The bathroom is done in what they call a Hollywood bathroom layout except ours has one that comes in through the hallway and another through the bedroom.
Below, you can see the entrance to the bathroom on the left and the entrance to the bedroom on the right. The size/distance does not really warrant this layout in the house.
Here’s the entrance from the hallway. There’s the door, plus another door (that we took out when we first moved in) for the small space:
View from the main part of the bathroom (you can see the frame of the door we took out on the left):
Then, yet another door viewing into the bedroom:
Then the entryway from the bedroom looking into the bathroom:
Look! Another door on the left:
It’s a closet:
So, basically there are 4 “spaces” in the whole bathroom. One for closet, 2 for sinks, and 1 for the toilet and shower area. There are basically 5 doors to get through the bathroom. It is crazy because the space itself is not very big to enable that many pathways and entryways.
After meeting with a contractor, he’s been working with me to come up with a better plan. This is what the bathroom layout will look like:
We’re going to have the following:
- closing off the entrance from the bedroom,
- moving the walk-in closet to the opposite side (where the sink nearest to the bedroom is),
- putting in a double vanity where the walk-in closet was,
- adding a linen closet/cabinet where the sink from the hallway entrance was
- replacing the carpet in the bedroom to connect it with the new closet
The bathtub and toilet will stay in the same place. We have electrical changes, plumbing changes, and flooring and tile changes made on top of everything else.
We hired everything out except that we’ll be doing our own mirrors (or mirror, I haven’t decided yet), faucets, and a light fixture over the vanity.
