Last summer I started running. The baby weight wasn’t magically falling off and seeing my muffin top overflowing from my pre-baby clothes was motivation for me to get moving.
It was hard, and it’s still hard. But, it’s been motivating to be able to fit back into a few more shirts. To date I’ve lost 40 pounds with another 20 pounds left to go to be pre-baby weight. (Those egg sandwiches slathered in mayo every morning during my pregnancy…sigh.)
I love using these three (free!) apps to help keep me going:
C25K: I credit this app for getting me running in the first place. That first drill was the hardest but I kept going back and sometimes repeating the same one over because the next one was too hard. I loved it so much I progressed to the c210K app and if you’re thinking of running for longer term, I would just go ahead with the c210K since it has the 5K in it too.
Runkeeper: I use this one off and on. It’s a good way to keep track of your pace and how long you’ve been running for. But, since I don’t run to be fast, I use it to track distance.
Stitcher: I’ve tried running to music, but I just can’t. Instead, I think of it as “me time” and listen to podcasts. I could go on and on about my podcast list, and maybe I’ll save that for another day. For now, I’ll just say that I love that I can use their Listen Later feature and it downloads it to my phone so it doesn’t eat the bandwidth (which I discovered much, much later after it ate all my bandwidth!).
Do you have any running apps or tools you suggest? Since we’re in Houston, it’s been so hot to go running outside lately, and I notice I’m getting darker and darker despite SPF. I’m either going to have to get up earlier or go out later!
