Lap/Throw Size Quilt
Grandmother’s Flower Garden was my first ever quilt. The local library had a free class and once I signed up, I was hooked!
This quilt was challenging for a beginner like me. Thankfully all the other women were very helpful, and I made it through.
I broke one of the quilting rules: the centers are supposed to be yellow. The printed background helps to hide my mistakes, especially in the cornerstones.
The back of the quilt is one simple pattern. Another mistake I see is that I pieced the backing exactly in the middle, which means it may not hold up in the long run as well.
This quilt seemingly took forever to finish because almost all of it was hand-sewn, including the quilting.
Looking back, I don’t think Grandmother’s Flower Garden would have been my first choice for a beginner quilt, but I did learn all the basics for the foundation to most everything else.
I would like to go back one day and make another Grandmother’s Flower Garden, but more to my colors and taste. The fabrics here were actually chosen by a lady at the quilt shop, and I definitely would choose a different color scheme now.
