I was inspired by the simplicity and cleanliness I observed while visiting Japan earlier this summer. Since then, I have been on a huge decluttering kick even more so than usual, purging items from our closets, and reading books that inspire me to keep going.
I recently finished reading The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up: A Magical Story, which is a manga based on Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. We read through the journey of Chiaki, a young woman living in Tokyo. Her apartment and love life is a mess and she hires Marie Kondo to come help her tidy up.
It was a really cute, fast read that summed up the concepts and principles from Marie Kondo’s book. I enjoyed getting a refresher, complete with a story and illustrated! When my husband spotted me reading it and I gave him a quick summary, he said this book was my dream come true: a decluttering story in comic form!
I don’t think you need to have read any of Marie’s previous books to enjoy this one. I think this is the perfect book to introduce to a younger group of would-be tidy-ers.
